THE SOCIETY

The Tuko Sawa Society is a values-based Harmony Community of Practice, registered in Tanzania in August 2023.
Tuko Sawa is a Swahili expression meaning “We are OK / We are Equal.” It affirms a simple but often overlooked truth: all human beings are equal by creation and interconnected with one another and with the natural world.
The Society brings together people from across Tanzanian society — educators, farmers, police officers, entrepreneurs, health professionals, artists, elders, youth, and public servants — united by the shared values of Humanity (Utu), Love (Upendo), and Unity (Umoja).
The Society operates as a Community of Practice (CoP), where learning takes place through participation, dialogue, observation, and shared responsibility rather than hierarchy or external instruction. This approach reflects long-standing African traditions in which communities functioned as living classrooms and moral ecosystems.

  • Equality of voice and dignity
  • Learning through lived practice
  • Respect for indigenous knowledge as living wisdom
  • Ethical conduct over status or titles
  • Relationship before transaction
The Society’s work focuses on harmony education, ecological awareness, and moral responsibility, with members encouraged to apply these principles within their families, professions, and communities.
The Tuko Sawa Society is registered in Tanzania under the Societies Registration Act and operates with transparency, accountability, and cultural integrity.
